Hola friends, today we´ll see how industrial tech may have a strong impact, COP26 may or may not be just blah blah, Clean energy from fusion?
CHART OF THE WEEK - Industrial Tech 2021 Report: Industry is Crucial for Solving the Climate Crisis
A very interesting overlap among Climate Tech, Industrial Tech and Deep Tech is enabling record breaking VC funding in European startup tackling the EV space, green stell production, sustainable electronics and material, circular economy, battery tech, biopolymers, etc.
🔋 Helion secures $2.2B to commercialize fusion energy
Some projects in the fusion space talk about heat, or energy, or other things. Helion is focused on electricity generation. Can we get it out fast, at a low cost? Can we get it to industrial-scale power?” asks David Kirtley, Helion’s co-founder and CEO. “We are building systems that are about the size of a shipping container and that can deliver industrial-scale power — say on the order of 50 megawatts of electricity.
Technologies like capturing the greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel burning enable countries, including the United States, to unrealistically continue including fossil fuels in their net zero carbon goals, she said, adding that President Biden deserves credit for pushing agreements to stop public financing of fossil fuel projects, as well as cutting methane emissions from oil and gas production and agriculture. But the United States did not join new global alliances to end coal use, and, in fact, plans massive new oil and gas leases in the already devastated Gulf of Mexico, she added.
🔇🗣 ‘Blah, blah, blah’: Greta Thunberg lambasts leaders over climate crisis
Research published on Monday showed that children born today would experience many times more extreme heatwaves and other climate disasters over their lifetimes than their grandparents, even if countries fulfil their current emissions pledges. Officials from the UN, UK and US said Cop26 would not produce the breakthrough needed to fulfil the aspirations of the Paris agreement but the broader goal of the conference – that of “keeping 1.5C alive” – was still possible.
